MetalPop
is an original story that I created a year ago out of my love for Sailor Moon, slice of life drama, and queer romance.
Set in a Visual and Performing Arts College, we follow the cheerful Camila and the introverted Spencer as they balance their jobs as magical girls and the intricacies of finding themselves.
I decided to challenge myself with creating a logo for this story if I were to create a series for this. I drew inspirations from some of my favorite exisiting magical girl stories, such as Sailor Moon, Steven Universe, Powerpuff Girls, and Winx Club, which embrace femininity and action. I also looked at the aesthetics of artists such as PinkPantheress, MARINA, and BabyMetal, to give a soft but sharp touch. These would represent the girly Y2K and bubbly personality of Camile’s magical identity, Flower Pop and the rough, wild, and punk demeanor of Flower Metal, the alter ego of Spencer.
